Béziers
Béziers ist a very beautiful historic city in the Departement of Hérault in the region of Occitania. The city was populated approx. 750 – 650 BC and has currently more than 77,000 inhabitants.
Béziers is situated on the banks of the river Orb and at the Canal du midi, 14 km (8.5 miles) from the Mediterranean Sea. The distance from the Prieuré Saint Martial to Béziers amounts approx. 20 km (12.5 miles), 22 minutes by car or 1 hour and 10 minutes by bike.
Some of the attractions of Béziers are the Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire, the old cemetery, the townhall, the market hall, the Paul-Riquet Alley with its high sycamore trees in the city center, the Plateau des Poètes (Garden of Poets), the old bridge from the 12th century (Pont Vieux), the locks of Fonséranes and the canal bridge at the Canal du Midi as well as numerous churches and museums.
All in all, Béziers is a lovely city with tons of history and highly interesting points of interest. The pictures we are presenting here (except for the last two ones, which were made at an antique market) were taken on a rather cloudy day, but we’ll visit this wonderful city soon again on a sunny day and then we’ll be sharing some better pictures here.
